Based in Lanarkshire, Central Scotland and featuring the Lake District in Northern England.

I first learned to Fly Fish on the river Nethan 20 years ago and soon after started scaring fish on the river Clyde as well, these are still my home rivers and as such will be the main features of this section. I have included the rivers Eamont and Eden because some of the best days fishing I have ever had have been on these rivers.

Follow the links beside each river's description to go to maps, photographs and more information on the river. If there are any other areas of these rivers you think I should add or any other rivers you would like me to feature please let me know, or if you would like to add your own e-mail me for details.

clyde The river Clyde at approximately 103 miles long from its source in the Leadhills to its mouth in the Firth of Clyde is Scotland's third longest river. The Brown Trout and Grayling fishing along its length is controlled by a number of Associations and information regarding fishing rules and permits will be included in each featured stretch of the river.

nethanThe river Nethan is where I first learned to cast a fly and a river I still love to fish. It is one of the many tributaries of the river Clyde and although the fishing has been of a very low standard for the past few seasons it is starting to show signs of returning to the river I grew up with. The Brown Trout and Grayling fishing rights are owned by the Landowners bordering the river.

The Nethan is also home to the "Nethan Valley Angling Association", their
release of 10,000 farm reared Parr into the middle section of the river during a period when this stretch had an abundance of wild Parr the same size caused concern among some local anglers. There is also a belief held by a percentage of anglers that the associations' interests and actions will eventually lead to the river becoming nothing more than a spawning burn for salmon, a focus for poachers with destructive methods patrolled by crown bailiffs changing forever the value and openness to the local community that has always existed. I have visited the Hatchery a couple of times and spoken to the leading figure within the Association, they were welcoming and generous in the time they spent with me. I hope to visit again soon and discuss points raised by local anglers, including any points sent to me here, the results of this will be added to the website. The current facts as I know them, my opinions and opinions contributed by others can be read here. If you fish the river or have any comments you would like to make please visit this area and have your say.

edenThe river Eden at over 60 miles long from its source in the Pennine Hills to its mouth in the Solway Firth is Cumbria's longest river and is classified as a "Special Area of Conservation" with much of the river also classed as a "Site of Special Scientific Interest". It is a beautiful and healthy river. The Brown Trout and Grayling fishing is controlled by a number of Associations and information regarding fishing rules and permits will be included in each featured stretch of the river.

eamontOne of the river Eden's major tributaries it flows from Lake Ullswater to meet the Eden near Langwathby. It is the site of the best days fishing I have ever had and can provide some rewarding but often tricky Dry Fly fishing for Brown Trout throughout its length. The Brown Trout and Grayling fishing is controlled by a number of Associations and information regarding fishing rules and permits will be included in each featured stretch of the river.
