The
river Nethan is where I first learned to cast a fly and a river
I still love to fish. It is one of the many tributaries of the
river Clyde and although the fishing has been of a very low standard
for the past few seasons it is starting to show signs of returning
to the river I grew up with. The Brown Trout and Grayling fishing
rights are owned by the Landowners bordering the river.

The Nethan is also home to the "Nethan
Valley Angling Association", their
release of 10,000 farm reared Parr into the middle section of
the river during a period when this stretch had an abundance of
wild Parr the same size caused concern among some local anglers.
There is also a belief held by a percentage of anglers that the
associations' interests and actions will eventually lead to the
river becoming nothing more than a spawning burn for salmon, a
focus for poachers with destructive methods patrolled by crown
bailiffs changing forever the value and openness to the local
community that has always existed. I have visited the Hatchery
a couple of times and spoken to the leading figure within the
Association, they were welcoming and generous in the time they
spent with me. I hope to visit again soon and discuss points raised
by local anglers, including any points sent to me here, the results
of this will be added to the website. The current facts as I know
them, my opinions and opinions contributed by others can be read
here.
If you fish the river or have any comments you would like to make
