Streamer Nymph
Based on a fly by Robert Mckay this is basically a super heavy nymph used to control the drift of a team of nymphs through fast water, rather than being purely sacrificial the extra movement and flash on this fly means it fishes like a dead drift mini streamer.

Hare Copper Jigback
This fly was shown to me by one of the best river anglers I’ve had the privelage to fish with, Davie Park, and has probably accounted for more Grayling over the last winter than any other fly. I’ve no doubt it’ll prove to be a great point fly on a Trout leader too.
Tied on a Partridge SUJ #16 this is a lot of weight on a small hook with the bulk of it over the eye so it ALWAYS fishes point up and by design gives a small fly with a lot less bare hook showing.
Hook: Partridge SUJ #16-18.
Weight: Tungsten Jig Back, size to suit.

Continuing to play around with the new Semperfli Nano Silk Ultra 30D thread I thought I’d have a go at a little buzzer with it, the fly below is the result.
Nano Buzzer
Hook: Mustad R30 #24
Thread: Semperfli Nano Silk Ultra 30D Grey
Rib: Semperfli Nano Silk Ultra 30D Red
Cheeks: Glo Brite No7 & No2
Breathers: Tag ends of the body thread folded other to give three lengths then cut to size
Body Finish: Clear Cure Goo Hydro
I remain very impressed with this thread, very strong and incredibly fine, I had to fold it over three times to get enough density of thread just to add breathers to a #24 fly. Same goes for the Clear Cure Goo Hydro, I thought I’d toil to get a thin even coat on a fly that size but it was a breeze. As I mentioned before in previous bog posts I’m not really one for tying or fishing tiny flies so this was more an experiment for me than something I’ll be tying a box full of and casting to Trout…. that said the thread and the Hydro makes the tying that bit easier so never say never.

Baetis Nymph
There are a great many fly patterns to imitate Baetis nymphs, nymphs of the upwing flies in general really, some are very intricate and beautiful pieces of imitative work and others like the Pheasant Tail, Grey Goose or Gold Ribbed Hares Ear nymphs which though very simple are also great fish catchers.
